Located in the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences (FNS) at the University of Reading, the Flow Cytometry Facility is a valuable research asset for our 3 research divisions: Food Microbiology Science Unit, Hugh Sinclair Human Nutrition Group, and the Food Processing Unit.
Our department is the largest academic unit of its kind in the UK. It was ranked as the top such department for research in the national 5 yearly Research Excellence Framework 2014 assessment with 71% of its output rated as ‘internationally excellent’ and 85% having ‘outstanding impact’
The Food Microbial Sciences Unit (FMSU) is internationally recognised in gut microbial research in health and disease and has published over 500 research articles in this field.
Our expertise can be accessed through FNS Flow Cytometry Services. We provide personalised research projects to industry with particular focus on the impact of dietary supplements (including putative probiotics/prebiotics) on composition and function of the intestinal microbiota.
